    • 1 umeboshi (pickled plum)
    • 2 shiso leaves, chopped
    • 20g shirasu (whitebait)
    • 1 tsp soy sauce
    • 1 tbsp salad oil

Remove the pit from the umeboshi and finely chop it. Mince the shiso leaves.

Tear the hanpen into small pieces in a bowl. Add the chopped umeboshi, minced shiso leaves, shirasu, and soy sauce. Mash and mix the hanpen until combined, then divide into 7 equal portions and shape into balls.

Heat salad oil in a frying pan. Add the hanpen balls and cook, rolling them around until evenly browned.
